R.I.P. 2010

Note: Our classmate’s full name was indeed Jeremiah Joseph Murphy, according to the 1969 graduation list in Cherry Hill News. Another article confirmed his mother’s name was Florence.

Jeremiah Joseph Murphy, 62, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va. Born Nov. 14, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Florence Phillips Murphy.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy. Jeremiah loved fishing and NASCAR racing. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patty Murphy; son, Michael Murphy and wife, Stephanie, of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; one granddaughter… two sisters; and one brother. He was preceded in death by one brother.

The In Memoriam list of Cherry Hill West’s Class of 69 is sadly way too long.

Regrettably, we have good reasons to suspect the following names may need to be added. But we have yet to find an official record, like a published obituary or death notice, or a listing in the Social Security Death Index, that can be tied directly to our classmate. Ruth Houck Nielsen Residents at her last address in Oaklyn, NJ, said in late 2018 that she died two years before.

Jamie Stephen Payne In this case, we did find records, but were they for the right person? The names of kin (mother Lena, sisters Gloria and Eva) listed in the Denton Chronicle-Record’s obit don’t seem to match. But the Death Index does tie this fellow to New Jersey in 1968-69.

Denise Martorana Wacker Now looks confirmed. Her sister’s husband’s office said that Denise, who lived in South Jersey, died about 2004. No obit found, but “Find a Grave” seems to confirm (birth year, middle initial, year of death all fit).
